Male construction workers are on average three times more likely to lose their life to suicide compared to the average UK male.

Male construction workers are on average three times more likely to lose their life to suicide compared to the average UK male. At least one construction worker takes their life every single day, meaning the risk of mental health outweighs any other safety risk when it comes to fatalities.

Premier Traffic Management is actively fighting to break the stigma of mental health in the workplace through the delivery of specialist Mental Health Awareness Training with our Partner, Future Health, Safety and Wellbeing Ltd.

The team have delivered a 3-day mental health awareness training course to the Premier workforce across multiple depots, supported by the #TimeToTalk campaign aimed at getting more people openly discussing mental health with one another.

Expert Mental Health Trainer, Claire Heywood, commented:

“I am passionate about supporting mental health and wellbeing in the construction industry and I was delighted to support the Premier Traffic Management team in raising awareness of the topic and providing a platform for people to talk about mental health. I look forward to continuing working with Premier to support their ongoing occupational health and wellbeing programme.”

Speaking on the training, Health and Safety Director, Mick Rogan, said:

“The statistics are there for all to see and we are committed to reversing this trend. The mental health awareness training will hopefully break down any barriers our team have in terms of talking about mental health and will support mental health issues from developing further by talking about it without any stigma.

We’re developing our programme further through the training of Mental Health First Aiders within Premier and we want to build an inclusive working environment where we work together to solve our individual problems as a team by talking about them and caring for one another.”
